ENERGOPLAST
ENERGOPLAST
Plastic has become a major threat to the environment causing landfills and pollution. We have come up with an innovation to convert the waste plastic into energy. Our model is called ‘ENERGOPLAST’ which means “energy from plastic”. First of all plastic is made from petroleum products which can be converted back to petroleum through plastic pyrolysis.
In the first unit, the Digester, shredded plastic
waste including the non recyclable ones are continuously heated using a heat
source. The vapors released are pass through the second unit, Oxidizer having oxidants which
oxidize the vapors. We have used Acidified Potassium Permanganate as an
Oxidizer. Once the vapors get oxidized, they produce heat and steam. The heat
produced prevents condensation, while the steam along with the vapors enter
into the third unit, Power Generator. In the power generator there are two
turbines which get rotated due to the steamed vapors and produce electricity.
Finally the vapors are let into a condenser containing cold water which
condense the vapors and turn it into fuel oil. Further the oil is collected in
another container.
The amount of
poisonous gases is less since, we aren’t directly burning the plastics and we
are heating them also the complete project is air tight hence any vapors would
not be released. Also the ashes left after this process constitute mainly
Carbon so it can be used as a manure for agriculture and hence there is no
residue in this process. Therefore this
model is completely Eco-Friendly.
FUEL OIL: Fuel oil is a distillate fuel that is commonly used in burning furnaces boilers or stoves to generate heat it is also known as Heating Oil or Furnace Oil. It is a cheaper fuel than others.
- if we put 1 kg of plastic we get about 150 - 200 ml of fuel oil.
- it produces electricity sufficient to glow a LED through out the process.
- if we do this complete process in a oxygen free environment, we get pure form of Gasoline.
